Site News: The Great Internet Outage, Day Two
Still no Internet access on this Tuesday the 8th of December, the Year of Our Lord 2009.
I hear the distant beating of drums.
Site News: Internet Down, No Comic Monday
My DSL is down. I'm posting this from my cell phone. Unfortunately my phone is not capable of loading my comics so I won't be posting any until they fix my DSL. But the good news is I'm fine. Totally fine. Juuuuuuuuust fine...
Misc: NaNoWriMo Recap
NaNoWriMo is over. It was long and arduous, with many pitfalls along the way, but I made it through. And how -- over the Thanksgiving holiday I was not only able to pass the 50K mark but I also managed to go 15K words beyond that goal, with a grand sum of 65,089.
This year was also the first year that my wife joined in the lunacy. She won, with a count of 51,548 words. I should point out that through the entire process she managed to keep ahead of my count by one to two thousand words daily, it was only at the end when I was possessed by sheer madness that I was able to pass her count. Congratulations to my wife! A win the first time around is no mean feat, especially when you're taking care of a fourteen month old during the day.
Congratulations to all the other NaNoWriMo participants. The site is reporting that there is a 19% win rate this year, which is pretty darn high. For those of you who didn't make it, don't despair. I've been doing this since 2003 and this is only third time I won... and my failures were miserable, miserable failures.
I'll be doing it again next year. God help me. Until then... comics!
Site News: Did I Say I'd Be Back Monday? Er...
Today is the last day of NaNoWriMo, and while I've already exceeded to the 50,000 word mark I'm trying to push myself to see how many words I can get in by midnight tonight. For that reason, the comic is getting the short end of the stick today as I callously neglect it in favor of piling up the word count.
I'll be typing right up to midnight, pour myself a fresh pot of coffee, then do tomorrow's comic. After that life should return to normal, except for all the other stuff.
Site News: Everything seems to be normal. Back next week.
The site has stopped crashing. The database appears to be functioning properly. Overall the site performance feels a lot snappier than it did... so I'm going to call the transition a tentative success at this point. Thanks to Prgmr.com for cluing me in to the importance of a properly sized server swap file.
Alas, the site disruptions and the last let of NaNoWriMo are conspiring with the US Thanksgiving Holiday to prevent me from updating any more this week. Sorry about that. Come Monday we'll learn more about the latest dance craze that's sweeping our litigation-happy industry.
