In fairness to Google,

In fairness to Google, whether or not to obey local laws if you find them morally objectionable is a very complex issue, and there are no easy answers.

At first glance it certainly seems that way: "They're evil, why are you helping them?" but then moral relativism rears it's head: how do you know they aren't right? I'm going to say they aren't, but it still raises questions about imposing your morality on others. (Which, I know, works both ways, governments shouldn't be doing it...or should they? etc. ><)

But then, you also have to consider the fact that if you disobey the local laws then your workers there end up arrested, and your offices there closed. Congratulations, you've just cut your company off from that market permanently, and you've gone and got your employees in legal trouble, is giving government x the information they wanted really worse than that?

etc.

I really don't envy Google or Yahoo, they've got to make some really tough calls, and none of their options would give them good PR.

Anyways, good comic today and yesterday.
