AUDIOMOD517: Er.. hello?

ALICE: Hello, is the young man who posts on the Ubersoft Audio forums as AUDIOMOD517?

AUDIOMOD517: Yeah, that's me.

ALICE: Hello, this is Alice from Ubersoft. We've notice that you've been modifying device drivers for the UberAudio32 (TM) line of sound cards -- specifically, you've been enabling features for some of the older model sound cards that we claimed didn't work in Nifty Doorways Verandah.

AUDIOMOD517: Yeah, it turns out all you had to do was --

ALICE: (Interrupting) First of all, we'd like to say that we're very impressed with your accomplishment, and would like to congratulate you on accomplishing what was a very technically challenging task.

AUDIOMOD517: Well thank you, I --

ALICE: (Interrupting again) Next we'd also like to say that if you ever do this again we'll sue you so hard the next twenty years of your income will get a concussion.

Well, this doesn't sound

Well, this doesn't sound like it's been ripped straight from The Register *coughUnCreativecough*!

Um...

... as I base all my comics on current events, they are by definition ripped from somewhere.

Thank

And thank you for doing that. Makes it a whole lot funnier, and even sometimes (as in this case) tips me off to something that happened, but I had missed. I had somehow missed this entire story on the web, so did a little searching and definitely learned of one company whose products shall never again grace my computers ;)

Also to the guy that complained - if the only place you read this was The Register then you missed most of the story.

FAQ's are wonderful things

From said FAQ

Oh, so it's a "Microsoft Sucks" comic.

No, it's actually a "The Computer Industry is a Pack of Liars and Cheats" comic. Yes, the company where the story takes place is named "Ubersoft," and yes, a lot of the stories are drawn from Microsoft's real-life antics, but that's not because the comic is targeted specifically at them: Microsoft is the 800-pound gorilla in the industry, and when they do something it has real and lasting consequences... it's impossible NOT to write about them.

But during the course of Help Desk's run to date I have also focused on other companies like IBM, Apple, Iomega, Symantec, Intel, and Intuit (just to name a few).

Creative, not Microsoft (just like the FAQs say)

Just like the FAQs state, many companies are being lampooned here for their attitudes and behavior. This thread is actually aimed at Creative's legal threats against a Brazilian modder named Daniel K. References can be found on Wired, Overclock.net, and many other places, I'm sure...

Heh.

Drupal was treating your "tag" as an actual html tag. I edited in spaces so everyone could see. :)
