Climbing On The Banwagon

Help Desk, by Christopher B. Wright

JIM WASHINGTON: Wikipedia surprised the world today when it was announced that a core group of site administrators was using a secret mailing list to discuss banning suspected agent provacateurs without going through the standard community process. Wikipedia, which claims to be a democratic, open, and community-driven encyclopedia, has long been accused by its critics of engaging in censorship to block any contributors who criticize its policies and activities.

JIM WASHINGTON: This just in: apparently no-one is really surprised that Wikipedia is engaging in this behaviour.

JIM WASHINGTON: This just in: I have been banned from Wikipedia.

NEWS TICKERTAPE: Wikipedia classifies Tomato as Vegetable -- "Scientific Classification Not Notable" is official explanation :: Stephen Hawking declared "Sock Puppet"

Yeah, Wikipedia

Yeah, Wikipedia has...problems.

Mostly with the whole "separation of powers", they don't seem to realize that giving a large group of people unlimited power with, essentially, no checks or balances is normally a bad idea.

If they could only allow votes (say) to remove admins who abuse their power, it might end up working out.

So true

Someone linked to you on our forum, I thought I'd say it's scarily accurate...

Anyone who wants to discuss these issues is very welcome over at http://wikipediareview.com/ :)

Hawkings isn't *really* a sock puppet ...

Steven Hawkings isn't *really* a sock puppet ... but, I grant you, he *does* look like one. I thank you, Mr. Wright, for bringing this to our attention. Have you also noticed he's been a guest on the Simpsons *twice* (at least), and Star Trek only once? (Again, AFAIK)

Banned from Ubersoft too?

So, you've been banned from Wikipedia, have you been banned from Ubersoft as well? :D
